Agatha Christie move over! Pretty Maids All In A Row was an entertaining read for so many reasons. I loved the playful & innocent relationship between business partners Tori & Kale, tho at times it's darn-well painful for love-stuck Kale. The English countryside & the grand medieval castle appeased my senses. The story moved along at a goose-prickling pace. But mostly I loved this book because of Tori & Kale. Their determination to keep searching was reminiscent of Nick & Nora Powell's adventures in "the Thin Man" series; tho Tori is more like Nick, & Kale is a masculine version of Nora.
The English lingo added a nice quality. All the characters are refined, educated, but just as quirky as anything Ms Christie could create. Although a gruesome crime sets them off on a quest to find an heirloom diamond, the mayhem & danger Tori & Kale face never overrides their depth of feeling for each other.
Pretty Maids All In A Row is a story without overt violence, obscenities, disturbing sexuality, or any of the other attributes that so many of today's stories feel compelled to include. It's a good ole fashion mystery that will grab you on page one & keep you feeling fully entertained right to the end.
